A Few Of The Cool Things I Have Done In The Past

World Bank Institute Social Innovation Training

evoke-update"The purpose of school is to prepare young people for the future, but nobody knows what the future will look like."

In 2010, the World Bank launched Urgent Evoke - A Crash Course in Changing the World as a special experiment in online education.

The project was inspired by universities in Africa, which felt that there was a shortage of basic entrepreneur education. Entrepreneurs are not only people who make money, entrepreneurs are people who solve problems and provide people with the things they need. They felt that there was a shortage of programs teaching young people to be problem-solvers: school is all about learning the answers to tests, to solving yesterday's problems, and there needs to be more emphasis on creativity and innovation.

Does this sound familiar? All around the world, education systems are in crisis because the world is changing faster than the tests can be changed. Teachers are not able to prepare their students for the future, because they are teaching them to answer the wrong questions.

students_discussing_at_computerUrgentEvoke was an experiment in online learning, collaboration, and entrepreneur education. It wasn't 100% successful, but it was an important part in the coming revolution in education.

Over 19,000 people took part in the 2010 experiment, but only 137 of them attained the highest honour of "Legendary Certified Social Innovator" and Chris was one of them. Additionally, we used some of the Evoke material and methods in some of our classes, and continue to do so. Evoke is currently only open to invited participants, as part of an ongoing development and evaluation program. We are proud to be part of this elite group helping to design the future of education at such a major organisation.

Here's the promotional video made by the World Bank. Nice to see where they spent the money!
