TEDxMonga Marshmallow Challenge
At TEDxMonga in December 2010, we needed an activity to excite and challenge one hundred people, to encourage them to work and co-operate with strangers in competition with other teams.
The Marshmallow Challenge is a simple fun activity in which every team receives the same resources:
- 20 sticks of spaghetti
- equal amounts of string and sticky tape
- one marshmallow
Then you have just 30 minutes in which to build the tallest possible tower - with the marshmallow on the top! The team with the highest marshmallow is the winner. That's it.
The Marshmallow Challenge was a great success at TEDxMonga, and is an excellent activity for team-building and motivation in any environment. We had ten teams, all struggling to complete the task in the available time, and another fifty people watching and making suggestions. You should try it.
