PassionQuest
|
|
If 'TaiwanChallenges' describes what we do, then PassionQuest is the value governing how we do it.
Put simply, PassionQuest is an emotional commitment to the work we
undertake, achieved by actively seeking ways to maintain and develop a
positive attitude. PassionQuest is about finding reasons to feel good
about what we do, to achieve more, to take pride and pleasure in our
achievements, and above all, to ASPIRE.
PassionQuest is goal-setting for personal development, best summarised
as "build better businesses by building better employees"!
The key to achieving our goals is to keep them in mind at all times and
to focus on making the necessary changes to the way we see the world
and respond to it. I usually have a couple of different projects
underway at any time to help me maintain my positive attitude, and
they're described here for anyone who has an interest.

Campaign For Real Beauty In Taiwan
( 7 items )
I have been complaining for some time about the shortage of "natural
beauties" in Taiwan. It seems that there are way too many girls who
rely on make-up, revealing clothes, outrageous behaviour, and so on to
make themselves attractive. But it's all fake, and I'm usually disappointed by the person "behind the mask".
This is totally unfair, and reflects the fact that I'm focusing on
the negative side of living in Taiwan. To force myself into a more
positive frame of mind, I have resolved to seek out and photograph
"Natural Beauties" and share them with the world here on this page.
This is a bit of a challenge for me, as it means I have to approach
complete strangers and persuade them to let me take their photographs.
But as the experts say "you should do one thing every day that scares the hell out of you."
And it might encourage the fake beauties to find their inner, natural beauty too!

More About PassionQuest
( 1 items )
PassionQuest is a project I repeat occasionally to maintain my positive outlook. It's very easy to make excuses for our failures, especially if we focus
on the negative things in our lives. When we do this we lose our
motivation, we stop caring, and we go through life as if we are asleep.
We have no passion.
One of the things that people comment on to me regularly is that I
am more passionate about what I do than they are. It impressese them,
and so I share my secret with them: I believe that by focusing on the
positive things, we can become more motivated to deal honestly with our
failures. We can set goals, and take steps towards them. And by doing
this we become more productive, more successful, and more happy.

We can
become more passionate by practising being passionate.
So, I developed this little program to "take charge", to be more
passionate. I call it PassionQuest, and it's very simple. You just have to do the following
things every day:
- Take time to notice and comment upon something that happens
to you that makes you happy. Or something you see or hear. It can be
anything, but it must be something that you didn't cause. The idea is
to open your eyes to the wonderful things around you. It can be
flowers, happy kids, a smile from your neighbour, a really great meal,
something cool that someone did, anything. Just find something that
makes you happy.
- Make someone else happy. Again, it's easy,
but many of us don't. Hold a door for someone, compliment someone, be
nice to a waiter who is having a hard day. Anything, just make someone
happy. It's amazing how much better you will feel as a result.
- Do
something for yourself. And I don't mean shopping. Swim, do yoga, eat
better quality food, whatever it is the goal is to improve your
wellbeing just a little bit. And tomorrow just a little bit more. Think
of your health, emotional state, spirituality, etc.
- Do
something that benefits your future, such as studying or practising a
new skill. Be all you can be, by spending time on self-improvement.
That's it, it's easy - except that if you don't tell anyone about it
then you won't get any feedback and will quickly lose interest. You
have to tell the world about what a great day you're having and what
you've done to make it even better. The internet makes this easy. Just
blog!
And for it to be effective, you have to set goals.
Goals must be
clearly defined, and achievable. Look at where you are, decide how far
you can hope to progress in one month, and then every day list your
achievements towards your goal.
Good: "Today I swam 300 metres, an increase of 50m from yesterday,
and I hope to be able to swim 1000m by the end of PassionQuest month. I
am 1/3 of the way to my goal."
Bad: "I want to learn to swim. Today I went to the swimming pool!" -
there are no numbers. You can't measure your success. You can't say "I
am halfway to my goal."

If you want to try it for yourself I've made it easy for you, I've set up this site so that you can do it
all here and meet other PassionQuesters. (We can all encourage each
other!) Simply register (provide your name and email address) and you're free to start blogging straight away.
