Old Adventure Stories

I used to travel a lot, and some of my adventures were written up as stories or newsletters for my friends. I've put the archive here, but it's a bit messy! I don't have time to tidy it up or fix the formatting. Feel free to poke around and see if you can find something interesting, but don't expect too much.



Super Typhoon Haitan, and me

Here's another "blast from the past": The yacht Johan II is currently based in Taiwan. As the first typhoon of the season approaches the owner flies to France, leaving me with the keys, and a request to 'look after' her. Assuming I have time, I'll keep a log of events as they happen.

An old old Taiwan blog posting

i've been doing some housekeeping on my computer and found this blog post that I wrote a few years ago. I couldn't help smiling  at my own sense of outrage, and reflecting that nothing has changed. Taiwan is still as crazy and frustrating as ever, and I'm still just as bad at keeping my blog up to date.

Riding The Iron Pigeon
 

After six weeks of overcrowded wooden buses with goats on the roof, rain, damp bed sheets, rain, being wet and dishevelled as we wander the ruins of age-old empires jostled by other western 'travellers', and rain, we need a holiday. Sunshine, tranquillity, and golden beaches beckon. Like the adventurers of old we followed rumours of a better place - only to find ourselves stranded in the pissing rain on an island that didn't have a single restaurant or bar!
